Kate Penner serves as an Academic Coach with special focus on STEM, but serves students with multiple backgrounds and interests. She joins the ARC from the math department, where she spent ten years teaching in the calculus sequence (Math M, 1, 21, and 23), and four years working in the Harvard College Emerging Scholars Program pilot. She is focused on accessibility in science and mathematics, supporting students as they embark on new coursework & its demands.
Kate entered Harvard College with an interest in physics and graduated in 2007 with a concentration in government and a secondary field in economics. She is a long-time member of the Board of First-Year Advisors, a former member of the Harvard College Honor Council, and a graduate student at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, focusing on high school to college STEM transitions. Kate has been recognized by the Bok Center for Teaching and Learning over 20 times for her work teaching undergraduate mathematics, and has been nominated multiple times for the Star Family Prize for excellence in first-year advising.
