Margaret Rennix
Assistant Director for Humanities and Social Sciences Support

Margaret has spent her career at Harvard helping students develop their reading and writing skills. She is passionate about making the hidden curriculum behind Humanities and Social Sciences courses explicit and giving students the tools they need to navigate those courses successfully. In undergraduate coaching, she assists students in understanding and breaking down their assignments, scheduling their time, and managing feelings toward coursework. In graduate coaching, she helps students prioritize their reading loads, set reasonable goals for completing their dissertations, and develop work/life balance. She also leads and facilitates ARC collaborations with academic departments in the Humanities and Social Sciences.

Margaret has a PhD in English from Harvard University and a BA/MA in English from the University of Virginia. She has previously taught in Harvard’s Writing Program and served as the Curriculum Facilitator for the program’s partnership with the Mindich Program for Engaged Scholarship. She currently serves on the Board of First-Year Advisors and was previously a non-resident tutor at Cabot House. Her volunteer work involves supporting asylum seekers in the United States, which has given her experience in trauma-informed interviewing. She also has extensive training in meditation and mindfulness and has attended numerous mindfulness-based workshops that she has adapted for the Harvard context. She is passionate about helping students develop a positive, healthy relationship with their academic work, even in the midst of difficult emotions and experiences.
