Margaret is a literary scholar by training who has spent her career at Harvard helping students develop their reading and writing skills. At the ARC, she works with faculty in the Humanities and Social Sciences to develop workshops and materials that help students build discipline-specific academic skills. In previous collaborations, she has designed programming on effective reading, project management for writing, preparing for class, and distinguishing between source types, among other topics.  

Margaret has a PhD in English from Harvard University and a BA/MA in English from the University of Virginia. She has previously taught in Harvard’s Writing Program and served as the Curriculum Facilitator for the program’s partnership with the Mindich Program for Engaged Scholarship. She currently serves on the Board of First-Year Advisors and was previously a non-resident tutor at Cabot House. She also has extensive training in meditation and mindfulness and has adapted this work for Harvard’s context. 

Margaret is passionate about helping students develop a positive, healthy relationship with their academic work. In undergraduate coaching, she assists students in understanding and breaking down their assignments, scheduling their time, and developing effective study strategies. In graduate coaching, she helps students prioritize their reading loads, set reasonable goals for completing their dissertations, and develop work/life balance.
